A Look Back: 50 Years of Interface Kids’ Impact

A Look Back: 50 Years of Interface Kids’ Impact

From our beginnings in 1976 to our current status as a volunteer-driven organization, Interface Kids has changed thousands of lives.

As we celebrate 50 years of service, we want to take a moment to reflect on our journey and the milestones that have shaped us into the organization we are today.

Our Humble Beginnings

Interface Kids was founded in 1976 at UCSD with a simple mission: to provide cleft lip and palate surgeries to children in need. In those early days, we were a small group of doctors and medical students, driven by the desire to make a difference. Over the years, our team grew, and so did our impact.

Key Milestones

  • 1976: Interface Kids performs its first set of cleft surgeries in Mexico.
  • 1990: We expand our services to include more complex craniofacial surgeries.
  • 2005: Interface Kids reaches a major milestone — 2,000 surgeries completed.
  • 2020: Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to provide life-saving surgeries, adapting our mission trips to ensure the safety of patients and volunteers.

Looking to the Future

As we look ahead to the next 50 years, our goal remains the same: to bring smiles and hope to children in need. But we can’t do it alone. With your support, we can continue to grow and expand our services, reaching more children and families than ever before.

Help us continue our legacy of impact by donating or volunteering today.
