Grecia’s Smile.

Grecia’s Smile.

By Shaili Patel, (High School Junior with extensive Interface volunteer hours (2023,2024,2025,2026).

The warm smile of Grecia filled the room as we asked her and her mother questions. They told us that Grecia’s left toe had grown over one of her other toes, making it extremely difficult for her to walk, run, and play. Grecia’s difficulties had not gone unnoticed by her family; her uncle recommended InterFace Kids to them after his own child had undergone a successful and transformative surgery through our organization.

Grecia and her mother expressed that, despite feeling nervous and unsure, they had come in the hopes of receiving a safe procedure that could improve her quality of life. And they received just that. InterFace physicians often navigate complex and difficult cases, with this particular surgery taking four hours. With every passing hour, Grecia’s mother’s anxiety grew as she worried about her child’s safety and care. As Grecia was carried to the PACU, her mother was able to breathe a sigh of relief, knowing her daughter’s surgery had been completed successfully and safely. After the procedure, Grecia’s mother thanked our providers and volunteers for giving her child the opportunity to live more comfortably.

InterFace Kids relies on the compassion and hard work of a community of volunteers and donors. This group does not take that mission lightly; its members tackle complex and difficult cases, offering every person they treat the opportunity for a better quality of life.
